In order to accurately determine what the correct size and swing your new door needs to be, follow these simple steps. First measure the width, this is the distance from the inside trimmer stud to the inside of the opposite trimmer stud. Next measure for the height, this is the distance from the floor to the bottom of the door header. In order to determine the handing of your door, stand with your back against the door jamb where the hinges are or are going to be. Put both of your arms horizontal with the floor, swing one of your arms the way you would want your door to open. If you moved your right arm, then you would have a right-hand door, and just the opposite for a left-hand door.
