DIY Outdoor Table and Benches
Materials Needed:
- 2x6 cedar boards from 84 Lumber
- Exterior wood glue
- Exterior wood screws (e.g., #10 - 1 ½” fasteners)
- Pipe clamps
- Sandpaper (various grits)
- Exterior finish of your choice
- Table and Bench Legs of your choice (we used Table and Bench Legs from Semi Exact)
Step 1: Cut Cedar Pieces to Rough Length
Using a miter saw, cut the 2x6 cedar pieces to a rough length, leaving about 2 inches of extra length.
Step 2: Rip the Boards to Exact Width
On the table saw, carefully rip the cedar boards to the exact width you need for the table legs and benches.
Step 3: Glue Up Boards into a Panel
Apply exterior wood glue to the edges of the cedar boards and use pipe clamps to glue them together into a panel. Ensure the width matches your desired table leg width. Allow the glue to set for 24 hours.
Step 4: Sand and Trim
Once the glue has cured, sand the panel to your desired grit for finish. Trim the ends of the panel to the desired length using a track saw or circular saw.
Step 5: Apply Exterior Finish
Apply an exterior finish of your choice to protect the wood from the elements. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for curing time.
Step 6: Attach Table and Bench Legs
Using exterior wood screws (such as #10 - 1 ½” fasteners), attach the table and bench legs to the panels. Ensure a secure and stable connection.
Step 7: Enjoy Your New Outdoor Set
Take your newly built outdoor table and benches outside and gather friends and family for a delightful meal. Bask in the satisfaction of creating a functional and stylish addition to your outdoor space.
