PROSALES Magazine Unveils 2017 Excellence Awards Winners

Construction supply firms honored for work in marketing, advertising, education, and facility design

Construction supply firms honored for work in marketing, advertising, education, and facility design

Washington, D.C. – November 29, 2017 – Hanley Wood’s PROSALES magazine announced today that four construction supply dealers won grand awards in its 2017 PROSALES Excellence Awards—the most prestigious awards program in the construction supply industry—while two other dealers received a merit award.

The PROSALES Excellence Awards honor outstanding achievements in construction supply in showroom design, facility design, technology, marketing and customer service, education, advertising, and websites. The awards program celebrates business leaders whose creativity and ingenuity have not only improved and reinvigorated their own companies but have also set new benchmarks for service in the entire industry.

The 2017 Excellence Awards winners, locations, and categories are:

  • 84 Lumber, Eight Four, PA — Advertising
  • Tum-A-Lum Lumber, Vancouver, WA — Marketing
  • US LBM, Buffalo Grove, IL — Education Program
  • HPM Building Supply, Keaau, HI — Education Program
  • Eikenhout Inc., Grand Rapids, MI — Facility Design
  • Curtis Lumber, Boston Spa, NY — Facility Design

Tum-A-Lum Lumber, 84 Lumber, US LBM, and HPM Building Supply all won grand prizes, while Eikenhout and Curtis Lumber received merit prizes.

“Whether it was for bold thinking, creative solutions, or building a foundation for the future, the winners of this year’s PROSALES Excellence Awards all displayed special qualities that made their achievements worth celebrating,” Editor-in-Chief Craig Webb said.

“Take 84 Lumber, which bet $20 million that its audacious Super Bowl ad would win the dealer fame … and recruits,” Webb continued. “Tum-A-Lum Lumber earned a more modest measure of renown through its savvy use of social media. US LBM and HPM Building Supply focused on building their workforces through employee development programs, while Curtis Lumber and Eikenhout Inc. showed that not all showrooms need to look the same.”

Dealers and distributors competed in seven categories: Best Overall Yard or Facility Design; Best Showroon Design, Best Marketing Campaign/Customer Service Program, Best Single Advertisement or Series of Advertisements; Best Use of Technology, Best Education Program, and Best Safety Program.

A panel of three independent judges then decided which entries, regardless of the category, achieved excellence and which other entries were worthy of merit. They were: Daryl Lundberg, president of Northwoods Lumber Co., which has operations in the towns of Bemidji and Blackduck, MN; Rick Davis, president of Building Leaders, a Chicago-based consultancy that helps improve dealers’ sales skills; and Chris Rader, president of Rader Solutions, an IT company based in Lafayette, LA.

“The judges are free to pick as many or as few winners they want in any category—what matters most is that the ideas presented represent best-of-class work,” Webb said. The fact we have so many categories represented among the winners shows the range of top-drawer work being done by building materials suppliers nationwide. We’re thrilled to tell their stories.”

Each winning entry is featured in the November/December issue of PROSALES. The four Grand Award winners also will receive a $500 check to give to the charity of their choice, while the Merit Award winner receives a $150 check.
